We're sorry to see you go. If you wish to delete your Chess Mates account and permanently remove all associated personal data from our servers, you can do so by following the instructions below.
How to Request Account Deletion
To delete your account, send an email to our support team from the email address associated with your Chess Mates account. Include the subject line "Account Deletion Request" so we can process it promptly.

What Data Is Deleted
When your account is deleted, the following data is permanently removed from our Firebase servers:
- Profile information — Your display name, email address, profile picture, and any custom avatar or banner you uploaded.
- Game history — All match results, ELO rating data, and move records.
- Social content — Posts, comments, and reactions you published on the global social feed.
- Friends & connections — Your entire friends list and all pending friend requests.
- Direct messages — All private conversations and message history.
- Challenge history — All game invitations and challenge records.
- Uploaded media — Any images or files you uploaded to the platform through Firebase Storage.
What Happens After Deletion
- Your account is permanently and irreversibly removed. There is no way to recover your data after deletion.
- Any games you played against other users will still show in their history, but your profile will appear as "Deleted User."
- Your leaderboard position and rating will be removed.
- You can create a new account at any time by signing in with Google again, but your previous data will not be restored.

We process all deletion requests within 48 hours of receiving your email. Once processed, your data is permanently removed from all our active systems. Backups are automatically rotated and your data will be purged from backups within 30 days.
Can I recover my account after deletion?

No. Account deletion is permanent and irreversible. All your data — game history, social posts, friends, messages, and ratings — will be permanently erased. If you sign in again with Google, a brand new account will be created with no history.
Do I need to email from my Google account?

Yes, for security purposes, please send the deletion request from the same email address you use to sign in to Chess Mates. This helps us verify your identity and prevent unauthorized deletion of accounts.
What if I just want to take a break?

If you want a break but don't want to lose your data, simply stop using the platform — your account will remain inactive until you return. There is no pressure to delete. Your data will not be shared or used while your account is inactive.
Will my posts on the social feed also be deleted?

Yes. All posts, comments, reactions, and uploaded media associated with your account will be permanently removed from the global social feed. Comments and reactions you left on other users' posts will also be removed.
